Two New Park Structures Ready for Play in Woodinville

WOODINVILLE, WA. – Both park play structures at Wilmot Gateway Park and Woodinville Heights Park feature brand new play equipment hand-selected by children in the community.
The process began with community input: in May, multiple design options were presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission for consideration.

Then, two design options for each park were selected based on a variety of criteria (e.g., budget, available area, play experience, surrounding landscape, and maintenance) and were presented to local elementary schools for voting (Woodmoor, Woodin, Wellington & Hollywood Hills). Over 1,600 students weighed in on the final selections that were presented to and approved by the City Council in June.

In August and September, construction was underway as contractors worked to build both play structures and pour the durable, springy safety surface for children to enjoy. The City’s Public Works and Engineering crews worked in tandem to keep the sites clean and the landscaping smooth to ensure both parks were in tip top shape for their grand openings in October.

The community excitement at both ribbon cuttings was palpable—time to go outside and enjoy the new amenities. . Let the City know how you like the new equipment: comments@ci.woodinville.wa.us.
